I absolutely fell in love with talk radio when I was in my early 20’s. It’s not something a lot of young 20 year-olds fall in love with – but something about that radio connection grabbed me. Whether it was funny, informative, provocative, or all three, I felt a connection with those who brought their perspective to life for me.
It’s why I got into radio – and why I loved coaching and consulting those who had no experience in the business but wanted to get better; and who wanted to find a way for their voice to be heard by clients and prospects.
The best radio hosts consumed news and content like crazy and their knowledge of any given topic along with their artful way of telling a story made for great entertainment. It was a bit more of a challenge to take an accountant and convert them into a compelling broadcaster. (no offense to the accountants out there.)
I believe that there is someone out there searching for your voice right now. If you’re a business owner, or you are in sales – you have to talk and they have to engage. When you convince someone to buy your product – they have connected with you. That connection is an invaluable tool – and your ability to speak about your product intelligently is the key to your success.
My goal is to help people find that same passion in their one-on-one delivery to a client and use it in the one-to-many form of a podcast. If you’re good at what you do, believe in your product, and love to tell others about it, then there is no reason not have a podcast.
I’m not ready to podcast
Many of the people who decide they don’t want to podcast or aren’t yet ready for it tell me that they are worried about coming up with new content or that they don’t have time to invest in planning a podcast. It may sound familiar. But in only 20 minutes, what you capture into a microphone becomes this…
- Stories you tell your staff, friends, colleagues, clients, and prospects every day;
- It is a story told with the same passion ONCE into a microphone and it becomes heard repeatedly over time;
- It is accompanied by show notes that explain the content of that podcast so that people that search for those answers find you;
- It becomes a standard practice to share or have your staff share that episode with anyone who has the same question.
Imagine the client that doesn’t get the opportunity to hear you speak about your latest innovations, awards, or changes to your products. What if your competitor is talking to your client right now about your weaknesses? It happens every single day. If you are not the voice reassuring those customers the voice changing their mind (or creating doubt) is the only one that they will hear.
Public speaking and talking on the radio takes time and patience and focus. But most importantly it takes passion. The business owner leader or trainer can find tremendous value in a product that cannot only be heard again and again, but can be indexed, searchable, and shared.
Take some time to consider your prospect pitch and realize that the connection being made is one of comfort – they’ll trade their money for trust.
I love what I do because every day I help people connect to their prospects, clients, and staff. When they build trust they build everything.
If you are concerned about what you might say, or just can’t imagine your business needing a podcast, I’d love to talk to you. Send me a quick email or call our offices and we will help you create the message that makes you stand out.
